"Hope and Circumstance" represents hope... my belief that when things go awry, the momentum of God and nature can bring us back to health and wholeness. The imagery is composed of thousands of small pencil strokes, resulting in desirable richness and complexity. Among the autobiographical references is the large central ameba-like shape which is a tracing (of the trunk cross-section) of my childhood climbing tree.
